A Clinical study on patients with Hemangioma

Abstract
A total of 255 patients with hemangioma at the department of general surgery and dermatology of S. N. U. H. from Jan. 1962 to Jul. 1969 was reviewed.
The results obtained are as follows:
1) The sex distribution assumed a ratio 1 to 1. 8 with 91 males and 164 females. 2) Hemangioma was first noticed at birth in the majority of the cases (81.2%).
3) The average age on examination was one year and 2 months, and the average size of hemangioma on examination was 2.5 cm in diameter.
4) There was no subjective symptom in the majority cases, but rarely(5. 9/) pain was etxperienced. Objective signs such as ulceration, deformity, purpura and thrill were not infrequently noticed.
5) Of all types, capillary hemangiomas, the so called strawberry marks are the most common clinically (58. 0%) as well as pathologically (67. 6%).
6) Hemangioma generally involves skin and/or subcutaneous tissue of any region of the body, and may appear in any organ or tissue of the body.
7) CO2 snow was effective to a small capillary hemangioma, and X-ray irradiation therapy was also useful capillary and cavernous hemangiomas.
Surgical excision of the hemangioma showed an excellent result, regardless of its size and type, with disadvantage of leaving a permanent scar and of rare recurrence.
